Outdoor Lighting Ideas To Make The Most Of Your Yard

Now that it is officially summer, the warm weather has us all wanting to spend more time outside, and when you do, you’ll want your backyard in tip-top shape.  We have put together some of the best outdoor lighting options to elevate your outdoor living space and make the most of your backyard this summer!

String Lights

String lights are one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to enhance your outdoor living spaces.  You can practically hang string lights anywhere, by attaching them to a pole, a tree, or wrapping them around an umbrella.  Best of all, string lights are easy to install and move, whether used on a patio, in a gazebo, or around a pool.  String lights are a great option for renters to enjoy because they are temporary!   There are also great solar options if you don’t want to mess with extension cords!

Built-in Lighting

If you have a covered patio or balcony, you don’t need to add decorative fixtures to get the right illumination. Recessed lighting can also be used outdoors, allowing for minimal visual “clutter” but ample illumination for all the ways you use your outdoor spaces.

You could also think about installing an outdoor ceiling fan if you have a covered patio.  This will not only provide great lighting options, but allow you to enjoy your outdoor space on a hot day!

DIY Lights

Make a firefly lantern! This is a fun DIY project that kids and adults can participate in.  Start by recycling some old bottles and purchase some LED Lights.  This bottle lantern kit consists of a rubber stopper with LED light strings attached. Just insert the light strings into a bottle of your choice and place the stopper in the top of the bottle. A small solar panel on the top charges the battery so that when dusk falls the twinkling LED lights begin to glow.

Step Lighting

Having lighting installed on your steps and walkways is a smart safety measure and, fortunately, one that won’t require you to call an electrician. You can purchase and mount solar deck lights to any flat surface with just screws or stake them in the ground; they’ll charge when the sun is out during the day, and turn on LED bulbs at dusk.

Lanterns

Lanterns are great lighting options for tables, your grill area, and even around your plants! There are a variety of different options depending on how much light you need and what design best fits your style.  You can also opt for a tiki torch or something with a live flame to add in lighting!

Outdoor lighting can add a lot of value in your home.  From lighting up the bonfire pit with string lights to installing step lighting for safety measures, there are so many ways to make the most of your backyard!
